The Pre-Astronauts: Manned Ballooning on the Threshold of Space
Published in Hardcover by United States Naval Inst. (May, 1995)
Author: Craig Ryan
Average review score:

Best compendium
This book is a complete compendium of Project ManHigh and Stratolab. Includes a full story about Col. Kittinger epic jump from a stratospheric ballon (the first person ever to break the sound barrier...in a freefall!!!) and the contributions of Dr. Stapp, and the others that made the U.S.A. space program possible.
Well written and informative.
Yes!A must-to-have for aerospace enthusiasts!

Complete History
This book is a complete history of Project ManHigh and includes a full story about all three flights. It also details the flights of Project Excelsior, Project Stratolab, and the flights of aeronaut Nicholas Piantanida. A must-have for aerospace enthusiasts.

Even Before Ham and Enos....
A lot of the people I know never KNEW about this part of our history. I'm glad someone had the good sense to write about it before it's lost for all time. Ever wonder why a person's blood boils in a vacuum? What the highest parachute jump was? Who were the people that pioneered this effort, even before the U.S. considered having a space program? That and more is in this book.

The Contortionist's Handbook
Published in Paperback by MacAdam/Cage Publishing (September, 2003)
Author: Craig Clevenger
Average review score:

Truly unique, haunting and memorable...
This book captivated me from the opening scene, where the protoganist lies on the floor of his apartment after a near fatal painkiller overdose. From there on we are thrown into the world of John Dolan Vincent, forger, liar, and man running from his past.

From hospital, to prison, to the underworld of L.A., "The Contortionist Handbook" is written with such a brilliant style that mere sentences will stick with you. I would sometimes come to a chapter where a paragraph was so damn good, I just had to read it over at least 3 times.

A lot of people who enjoy books by Chuck Palahniuk always go looking for a new author afterwards that can match the experience of one of his novels. Craig Clevenger matches if not far suceeds this goal.

I finished this book last week and already I want to read it again.

the contortionist's handbook
if you suffer from chronic headaches this is an absolute must read!!it is a must read anyway-one of the best books I have ever read. the plot is gripping and riveting and I was hooked by the 3rd paragraph.go get it!!

Clevenger's genius rivals that of his main character
It has been a long time since I've gotten so excited about a book. While I was just pages into this novel, I knew that I had discovered something rare and wonderful - a gem among books - which now ranks in my top three favorite novels of all time.

It was a short excerpt that originally inspired me to buy this book. Clevenger's style is crisp and clever, while still managing to remain sincere. It's hip without being cold. There's a highly appealing rhythmic quality to his prose and he manages a series of technical descriptions without ever making the reader feel bogged down.

The Publisher's Weekly comment about this book being "underplotted" is one of the most ludicrous judgments I've seen in print, surely written by an aging woman with a fondness for Emily Dickenson and The Bronte sisters, a writer who obviously did not "get" Clevenger. In fact, his prose is so full of tension that reading a single paragraph is like racing downward on a roller coaster ride.

Kudos to Clevenger! I only wish I had written this book.

Emotional Freedom: Techniques for dealing with emotional and physical distress (Revised Edition)
Published in Paperback by NeoSolTerric Enterprises (25 August, 2001)
Authors: Garry A. Flint and Gary Craig
Average review score:

This book is the answer to unsolvable problems
I found this book to be very helpful. I had used the technique, thinking they didn't work, only to find I didn't have the fear anymore. For instance, steps with openings in them, cause me great fear, but one day I went up and down the stairs with no fear and actually had to remind myself that those type of steps scare me.

The cause of all negative emotions is a disruption in the body's energy. This is the core theme behind EFT techniques. I definitely recommend this book and recommend getting a video series to highlight the points for you. Because of pyschological reversal, I failed to use the techniques. I had this book for 2 years and didn't use the information to help myself. I bought a video tape series of EFT techniques and, because I read this book first, the videos made perfect sense and I was able to immediately begin use of the techniques. Now, I see people I don't know, with issues, and I literally want to help them tap away their problems.

I have just begun but I have great confidence in the book and its information.

Solid informational book, fascinating
Don't let the small size of this book fool you. It gives a detailed description of Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) and how to use them to gain control over emotional problems such as fear, anxiety and addiction (as well as most others). That's a pretty tall order for any book to try to fill and especially so when so many different fields of psychology and self-help can't seem to agree on how to deal with emotional problems. It seems that a therapy that works for one person does not work for another person. So, how does this book try to fill the order of a simple system that anyone can learn and apply to help with any emotional problem? It does it by pointing out that emotional problems create certain definite changes in the body that can be treated with accupressure. So, the author takes you on a tour of accupressure points and techniques that change your body's reaction to the emotional stimulus and in doing so take the power away from uncontrolled emotional reaction.

The EFT techniques allow the user to treat themselves with a system that can be done quickly and privately at any time and in pretty much any situation. Working from the smaller problems, in order to gain experience and confidence, to the larger ones the techniques are detailed and include a troubleshooting section to help determine what to do when things are not progressing the way they should.

Well written, organized, easy to understand and easy to implement, it is a fascinating read. Recommended for those wrestling with gaining control over emotional issues.

Emotional Freedom Techniques Made User Friendly
Dr. Garry Flint is a seasoned experimental and clinical psychologist with a behavior modification background. He is adept also at hypnosis, EMDR, thought field therapy, and emotional freedom techniques. In this book he lays out EFT in a user friendly way--for all to benefit from his vast experience. Read this one! You'll be glad that you did.

Author: Craig Boreth

What a gift
This book is simply great. Good chow and lots of neat pictures and information about Hemingway. I use it as a gift and makes it easy.

Eat like Papa - the Recipes Work!
If you enjoy eating and drinking well, this book will show you how to go about it. The bar recipes are fantastic and the accompanying stories and anecdotes provide crackling fodder for dinner discussions. What fun to be able to recreate meals that you've read about - your own moveable feast! The gluhwein recipe alone will keep you warm and fuzzy all winter. I happily recommend this book to all, Hemingway enthusiasts and critics alike!

Boreth finds a great thread through history and geography!
The thing I liked most about this book is the way Boreth uses the life of Hemingway to bring together so many fascinating places, tastes, people, and ideas. It gives you a wonderful sense of a great life, and some tasty recipes to boot.

Medal of Honor: A Vietnam Warrior's Story
Published in Hardcover by Brasseys, Inc. (February, 1995)
Authors: John R. Craig and Roy Perez Benavidez
Average review score:

More than words
My father told Roy's heroism as a bedtime story when I was a very young - before Roy even receive the Medal of Honor from President Reagan and before this book was written. You see, my family is the 1st generation from Vietnam. While he was in the army, my father had the honor and privilege meeting Roy. Needless to say, my father revive Roy's story numerous times to me. I never imagine it was all real...I am so overwhelm while reading this book that it is all true. A definitely must read.

A True Hero
My USA retired husband saw Roy Benavidez 3 days before he passed in Nov '98. Visitors were restricted but Roy beckoned for him to come into his hospital room (he always made time for everyone). He was in great pain and had his shirt off. His scars showed. A few words were spoken between 2 battlefield brothers. It must have been a comfort to the family to see the hundreds who went to the funeral. Mrs. Benevidez resides in El Campo TX, drop her a line to tell her you still remember Roy. Maybe one day a movie will be made about THIS FINE CHRISTIAN MAN.

MEMORABLE AND HONORED TO HAVE MET HIM!!!
I truly enjoyed the book! I met MSG Roy P. Benavidez in 1990 while stationed in the Air Force at Dyess AFB in Abilene, Texas. The book is a must to read. It's an inspiration to all mankind. Unfortunately, on 11-30-98, he passed away. I attended his funeral services along with hundreds to pay our respects to a man whom I met in my lifetime and will never forget. The book has been written. Now, the movie must be made...

The Entrepreneur's Guide to Business Law
Published in Paperback by South-Western College Pub (29 May, 1997)
Authors: Constance E. Bagley and Craig E. Dauchy
Average review score:

book review
I find the book to be very practical, and extremely helpful to entrepreneurs who are in the process of starting companies. I highly recommend this book to first-time entrepreneurs...

Great book for entrepreneurs -- much more than law
Any person beginning a new start-up should pick this up before they get much further than an idea. Though geared towards the major legal issues involved in starting a company, this book covers many of the essentials of beginning and structuring a business far better than most of the other books on financing or building start-ups. I've at least looked through a dozen books on the subject and none has had better, more explicit guidance on dividing founder's equity, options, funding relationship and so much more. I cannot recommend this book highly enough; you'll be at a disadvantage without it. You can view other reviews of entrepreneur books via my reviewer profile.

great book -- excellent overview of business law
highly readable and informative primer on basic business law principles and their application within the context of early stage and maturing companies (from day one of the business to ipo). its use of examples is also excellent. chapter 13 (Human Resources) was particularly helpful -- the information on employment issues and the sample work agreement forms are enormously helpful.

i recommend reading this book before quiting your corporate job and starting your own company -- the 2nd chapter of the book, "Leaving Your Employer," highlights certain legal restrictions that may save the entrepreneur from potential headaches in the future involving their former employer.

The First Year--Fibromyalgia: An Essential Guide for the Newly Diagnosed (The First Year Series)
Published in Paperback by Marlowe & Company (May, 2003)
Author: Claudia Craig Marek
Average review score:

Well written and full of useful info!
As the title indicates, this book is geared towards those who are new to fibromyalgia and are facing what I wrestled with when I was first diagnosed: eight million questions about what was happening to me, what do about it, and what my diagnosis meant to me and those around me. Ms. Marek does an excellent job of providing a comprehensive overview of everything I remember wanting to know the day a doctor told me I was one of the millions with fibromyalgia. How could I reduce and cope with pain and fatigue? Why in the *heck* was my body doing so many weird things? Did anyone else feel this way? How could I continue to live my life?

In spite of the book's orientation towards the newly diagnosed, I learned things I didn't know. Therefore, even those who have lived with this illness for a while can benefit from this book. I know I'll find it to be a useful reference to return to, and am happy to have it on my shelf.

What did I most love about this guide? The writing is clear and easy to follow. I'd describe it as conversational, as if Ms. Marek was having a private discussion with me. She illustrates the practical information with her personal experience (she too has fibromyalgia), as well as with the experiences of others.

This book is well-organized, and broken into manageable sections with section headings. If you are heavily fogged, you can read a little, bookmark it, come back to it later, and use the headings to remind yourself of what you were reading.

In addition to a wealth of practical information about managing fibromyalgia, Ms. Marek talks about the emotional aspects of living with the disease. She discusses how it affects not only the person with this illness, but those around them. She addresses things like denial and acceptance, and the role those play in our lives.

So many books I've read mainly talk about our physical symptoms and what to do about them. They hardly mention what it feels like emotionally to live with fibromyalgia. Ms. Marek speaks to the human being underneath the illness...the person who is struggling to maintain their identity in the face of a body that no longer works the way it used to.

In summary, this is a solid, well-written book that I wish someone had handed to me when I was diagnosed. As the title says, this is an Essential Guide.

A great road map for understanding this confusing condition
Claudia Marek has surely hit a home run with this her latest book! I would have given anything to have had this information at my fingertips 30 years ago when fibromyalgia began to rear its ugly head in my life. Not only does she give coping strategies for dealing with all aspects of this life robbing disease for the sufferer Ms. Marek also shares ways of teaching those who love or work with us to understand, accept and how to help us. How I wish I had had this information when everyone around me thought I was crazy! This book is packed with great ideas that really help anyone with FMS to actually feel better and rejoin life! Well done Ms. Marek! Well done!

OMAR
Published in Hardcover by Xlibris Corporation (March, 1999)
Author: Craig O. Thompson
Average review score:

"OMAR" is one exciting thriller!
I picked up the new novel about terrorism called "OMAR" by Craig O. Thompson, at the Arizona Book Festival. It is one of the most intelligent reads I've purchased in years. More than just the blood and guts that most bottom-line, leveraged buyout publishers seem to throw at us, these days, "Omar" gave me thoughtful passages and carefully threaded stories to unite the plot (which deals with terrorism under the Atlantic and a very famous sunken ship). I would compare to the best of Cussler and Clancy.

Watch out, Cussler and Clancey!
I have been a rabid fan of Clive Cussler and Tom Clancey for all of their literary lives. I still can't wait until their next novel hits the stands. After reading Omar, I eagerly added Craig O. Thompson to my roster of favorite suspense thriller novelists. I thoroughly enjoyed Omar and am axiously awaiting Thompson's next novel. It doesn't matter that Craig O. is a great friend of mine...he got this recommendation because he earned it and because his book is well worth reading and well worth adding to anyone's library. This will be a Hollywood blockbuster movie someday soon. And you can take that to the bank!

Outstanding page-turner
It's always difficult to review the work of a friend (for obvious reasons), but in this case it was an absolute delight! OMAR is an exciting, thought-provoking novel that Craig O. Thompson has painstakingly researched down to the last detail. The characters are multi-faceted, the plot is complex without being confusing, the action sequences are fast-paced and descriptive, and the details show incredible knowledge of the subject matter without being pompous. OMAR puts the reader in the story from page one. If you like the idea of the depth of Tom Clancy combined with the story-telling ability of Wilbur Smith, OMAR needs to be in your collection. I can't wait for the sequel! By the way, even though Craig is a friend, I BOUGHT this book, so I could review it with a critical eye. I'd suggest it to anyone who loves action adventures.

Great for Beginners
I got this book about 6 months ago and have refered to it numerous times as I have learned my way through my first quilts.
